Interior Trends from Milan

We’ve just returned from Salone del Mobile – the central show of Milan Design week. We witnessed some stunning new trends and designs as the world’s renowned design companies showcased their latest work.

There are some clear interior trends emerging that we’ll all be looking to incorporate into our interior design. Here’s a roundup of the trends you’ll be seeing this year.

Colour

Natural colours like beige, grey and taupe were prevalent throughout. It’s no surprise that grey was a strong feature through may of the designs we saw. It’s one of the easiest colours to work with and goes and looks sensational when mixed with white or brighter colours. In addition to natural hues we saw brighter and bolder colours such as dark green, yellow and bright blue. Pops of colour are a fantastic addition to add any room and they can be made with big pieces of furniture or smaller items. We love the yellow pop in this home office.

Metallic

A very strong trend that we’ll continue to see is shade of gold and silver. Not just reserved for Christmas, metallic will add that touch of glamour and decadence to any room.

Materials

Walnut was a strong look, as was stone backsplashes in kitchens which add an added touch of glamour. Imitation concrete and metal featured as did marble table tops, showing the industrial feel is still on trend. We noticed matt finishes were a strong trend, say goodbye to shiny countertops and finishes, it’s all about creating a matte finish for that statement look. Upholstered furniture, beds and wardrobe doors will be making their way into our bedrooms as they start to make a comeback this year.

Lights

We noticed the use of large feature ceiling lights adding a designer touch and practicality at the same time. LED lighting around mirrors, under shelves and along kitchen worktops were a strong feature and a trend that is easy to recreate whatever your budget.
