Ice Cream Colours for Summer
Don’t talk about it too much in case you scare it away but it seems like Summer might be round the corner. There’s been glimpses of it here and there and I’m pretty sure I saw the actual Sun last week. And when the Sun comes out, there are certain things that we just can’t resist doing, like sunbathing at any possible opportunity, no matter how inappropriate the time and place. Or clinging on to that one table in the beer garden that avoids the shade all day. But one of the best things about Summer has always, and always will be Ice Cream! I don’t mean Mr Whippy or Ice Pops, but proper, handmade Gelato. There’s nothing quite like standing in front of a vast array of colours and flavours and choosing which one to fill your cone (and your face) with.
So what better way to bring the joy of Summer into your home than with some Ice Cream inspired colours. Bright pastel colours are bang on trend right now and the perfect way to brighten up your home without looking too offensively garish.
We’ve selected a few products and ideas that you can introduce to create that perfect Ice Cream Summer look.
This glorious Summer living room belongs to design and lifestyle blogger Little Big Bell. The oversized print above the sofa acts as a focal point and an inspiration for the rest of the room with pastel shades of mint green, pink, yellow, peach and lilac creating a room that screams Summer. See more pictures and details here.
Handmade to order, these modern takes on the classic Chesterfield come in a whole host of colours and fabrics, but we’ve selected a couple that fit perfectly into our Ice Cream colour palette. A Pale Rose or Kingfisher Turquoise linen sofa from Loaf help create a look that’s as Summer as Pimms on a beach. See the full range here.
These vintage style fridge/freezers from Smeg prove that the kitchen can be a place for Summer too, and seeing as we need freezers to keep our Ice Cream from becoming just cream, it’s fitting that these beauties come in a range of stunning vivid pastel shades. It’s not so fitting for the toasters, but they look just a spectacular anyway. See more here.
Fridges, sofas and huge pieces of art may be on the large (and expensive) side, but there are plenty of more subtle ways to inject a bit of Ice Cream Summer into your home. From left to right, here’s a selection of smaller accessories that we think do the trick. Etsy seller ShadeOnShape have created a beautiful collection of small vases and candle holders that combine light wood and pastel shades. French-inspired interior shop Dibor’s offering to the Ice Cream palette is this delightful mint green hexagonal candle holder. Cox & Cox Blush Pink candles would perfectly compliment both.
Sometimes, you barely need to spend anything to create a certain look and feel in your home. Shelterness is a website dedicated to fantasic DIY ideas and inspiration. We came across this particular project that had transformed an old, lifeless chest of drawers into a multicoloured Ice Cream dream chest. That’s what we’re calling it anyway. Read more about the project here and get inspired.
Another homemade offering are these distressed chalkboard mason jars from wedding blog Something Turquoise. The colours alone were enough to catch our eye. You could create your own in all the colours of the Ice Cream rainbow. See how they are made here.
Now, only 2 things for you to do:
1. Bring some Summer into your home.
2. Go and get an Ice Cream
