Playful Plywood Interiors
Once hidden away behind fabrics and plasterboard, this versatile and dependable material has been given a new lease of life and has well and truly spread its wings and flown into our hearts and homes. Plywood continues to grow in popularity as interiors designers, architects and furniture makers find more and more creative ways to demonstrate its beauty and practicality. Whether it’s full internal walls or little touches or edges here and there, plywood works wonderfully alone or in harmony with contrasting materials.
We’ve picked out a few of our favourite plywood interiors.
This London based creative team specialises in creating plywood interiors and furniture, proving that it really can work anywhere in the home. See a selection of their projects below:
Swedish company Bedow creates bespoke interiors and furniture with plywood very much at its core. Below is an example of a Pine plywood-framed kitchen in Stockholm. The changeable coloured fronts echo the colourful leaves of a Swedish autumn.
Below: Pine plywood framed shelving/display unit. The design was inspired by the neighbourhood’s irregular buildings, with the church as it’s centre point.
New Zealand based furniture company Make are another creative team to specialise in Plywood furniture and do so because of the materials “Durability, Beauty and Strength”. The Open Vanity Unit below demonstrates that Plywood works as brilliantly in the bathroom as it does in the kitchen.
This Milan based team focuses its research on architecture, design and landscape, paying attention to sustainability and quality of living. They transformed a tiny apartment in Milan using a LOT of plywood and a few clever space saving ideas.
This Islington Victorian maisonette was transformed by Larissa Johnston to provide a sense of space, openness and light in an otherwise dark building, and the use of natural materials, including a lot of plywood really complements the simple rooms. Plywood again showing its versatility.
And finally, a few other items celebrating the beauty of plywood.
