Although often overlooked creatively, the staircase can become quite the eye-catching feature when handled with a bit of outside-the-box thinking. In most homes, a staircase is not only used countless times a day, it’s usually one of the first things you and your guests see as they walk through the front door, so why not invest a bit of time, money and inventiveness to create a wow-factor feature. Here’s a few examples of how to do just that.
A Lick of Paint
Play around with a touch of colour on either just the treads or just the risers.
Or go all out by painting the whole lot.
Experiment with a combo of striking rainbow colours, or get clever with masking tape to create the suggestion of a runner.
If you’re looking for simple and striking, go bright or go home.
Or for those feeling a little more adventurous, throw some daring patterns in there. Spots, stripes and florals all make a big, bold statement.
The best way to play around with patterns and prints is with wallpaper. The possibilities are endless and can even be achieved with a selection of offcuts and spare pieces.
Something a bit Different
If you really want to make a statement, why not think about introducing a bit of magic and mystery into your home with a floating staircase. Or if you never want to grow up, you can always compliment your staircase with a slide. It’s what your 10 year old self would tell you to do!
